Therapept

Decapeptide corresponding to the C-terminal region of human kisspeptin (metastin residues 45–54)

Kisspeptin-10

A decapeptide fragment of human kisspeptin with no FDA-approved drug product. It is on FDA's active 503A Category 2 table for bulk substances used in compounding, and kisspeptin and its agonist analogues are prohibited in sport under WADA class S2.2.1.

Category 2Also listed as: KP-10, Metastin (45-54)

Where the interest comes from differs by compound: published research, an approved use, clinical discussion, community discussion and vendor claims are different things. This page keeps them apart — the sections below say which kind of source supports each statement.

What has actually been studied

    What is still unknown

    What we know

Editorial reading of the records below, labelled as Therapept analysis. How records are built

      What remains uncertain

        Preparation and handling

Lyophilized peptides ship as powders; whatever happens next involves diluents, concentrations and storage conditions that are compound- and product-specific. Therapept’s preparation guides explain the vocabulary and the arithmetic; the product’s own documentation states its requirements.

        United States regulatory status

        FDA compounding Category 2

        • No approved drug product exists in Drugs@FDA.
        • Kisspeptin-10 is on FDA's active Category 2 table for 503A compounding, added 29 September 2023. FDA's published concerns are immunogenicity risk for certain routes, peptide-related impurities and API characterisation, and no or limited safety information for the proposed routes.
        • ClinicalTrials.gov lists registered human studies of kisspeptin. Registration is not approval.

        Anti-doping status

Named at S2.2.1 — “kisspeptin and its agonist analogues”, among testosterone-stimulating peptides in males. Prohibited at all times.

Regulatory status describes how a substance is classified. It is not a safety assessment, and it says nothing about the quality of any particular material.
