Electrospray ionisation (ESI)

An ionisation technique that transfers molecules from solution into the gas phase as ions, widely used for peptide mass spectrometry.

ESI typically produces multiply-charged peptide ions, which are deconvoluted into a molecular mass for comparison against the mass expected from the sequence.
