Trifluoroacetate (TFA)
A counterion frequently retained by peptides purified by preparative reversed-phase HPLC using trifluoroacetic acid as a mobile-phase modifier.
TFA content is part of the preparation's mass but does not appear in a UV-detected chromatographic purity figure. Where it matters, it is quantified separately or the material is supplied as an alternative salt.
