Counterion

The ion paired with a charged peptide in its isolated salt form — trifluoroacetate and acetate are common.

Counterion content contributes to the dry mass of a peptide preparation without appearing in a reversed-phase HPLC purity figure. It is quantified separately, typically by ion chromatography.
